When you think of Central Florida, what do you think of first? Mickey? Beaches? NASCAR? Well, think ... Daylilies!!
Our own daylily MECCA is located in Seminole and Volusia Counties, on and near the banks of the St. Johns River. Daylilies love the sandy soil, our long hot rainy summer days, and the cool temperate days of winter. Our long growing season is ideal for daylilies and for the Sunbelt Daylily Chapter of the American Hemerocallis Society (AHS). Join us and discover new friends and spectacular new cultivars created by our members!

| On the first Saturday in May, the Sunbelt Chapter presents its Annual Festival and Show (often called MECCA). We sell plants donated by local hybridizers; our flower show displays blooms from amateurs and professional growers alike; and we sponsor a Friday banquet. Sunbelt's world famous hybridizers open their gardens to visitors from far and wide! May is our prime bloom season, and it is a great opportunity for you to experience the finest of daylily cultivars.
When you are in Central Florida, please stop in to visit us on the first Sunday of the month, from September to April. An original program is presented at most meetings. Directions to the Seminole Agriculture Center are shown below.
A special highlight of this site is called "Faces and Flowers". Four times a year, we will update this section to introduce you to two Sunbelt members, both professional growers and enthusiasts. You will find an insightful personal interview with each grower as well as pictures of their introductions and/or gardens. We hope you will enjoy this feature! We believe we have a unique opportunity to introduce you to the people and the flowers that make Sunbelt such a familiar name in the world of daylilies.
The second quarter of 2004 will feature interviews and pictures from Dan Hansen and David Kirchhoff.

November Speaker: Patrick Stamile
Pat and his wife Grace began their "love affair" with daylilies in the mid 1970's. Back then they resided in Long Island, New York and both taught in the public schools. They enjoyed the outdoors, especially gardening, and daylilies were a wonderful summer blooming perennial for their gardens.
By 1978 they were bitten by the hybridizing bug. Pat chose to develop new large flowered cultivars that were round, full and ruffled. His first introductions were in 1984. Since that time he has created many new cultivars: large, small, double, unusual form and spiders. Pat currently grows between 5,000 and 7,000 new seedlings each year. The American Hemerocallis Society gives out international awards each year. Pat was the 1977 recipient of the Bertrand Farr Silver Medal for excellence in hybridizing. He has won 3 Stout Medals which is the highest award a daylily can receive, and we are sure he is not finished yet!! In addition he has won more of the other awards AHS presents than any other person.
In 1991/1992, Pat and Grace left teaching and moved to Florida bringing their daylily nursery (Floyd Cove) with them. Their home and nursery are located in Enterprise, FL. We are lucky to not only have him as a speaker but an active member of the Sunbelt Daylily Chapter.
Please Join Us!!! First time visitors get a FREE daylily!
